Oil cleansing is a gentle and effective method of facial cleansing using botanical oils instead of soap.
Oil cleansers remove impurities by penetrating pores and loosening hardened sebum. Plant oils readily mix with the wax and oil our body produces, allowing trapped dirt and bacteria to be washed away and replaced with clean oils. Your skin is throughly cleansed without disrupting it's natural moisture balance.
The oil cleansing method is suited for all skin types. It is balancing for oily skin as it deeply cleanses yet provides the hydration your skin craves, allowing a reduction in the amount of oil your skin produces naturally. It also allows dry skin to remain as hydrated as possible as it is cleansed. As with any cleanser, you should follow with a moisturizer suited to your skin's needs.
Castor seed oil is the active ingredient in oil cleansers because it is a strong astringent- it penetrates deep into pores, loosening and extracting toxins, pollutants, bacteria and hardened sebum.
Castor oil is blended with nourishing carrier oils and essential oils to create the perfect oil cleanser. Non-comedogenic oils (ones that won't clog pores) are key in the cleansing process. Anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory oils are helpful for breakout-prone skin types.
Here is our signature blend: Castor, Jojoba, Safflower, Frankincense, Rosewood and Lavender. Jojoba is actually a liquid wax and is the botanical extract most similar in composition to our skin's own sebum. Safflower is high in linoleic acid, the polyunsaturated fatty acid responsible for aiding your skin in the production of sebum that is more fluid and less rigid, over time allowing reduction in pore size. Frankincense, lavender and rosewood essential oils are full of antioxidants, and have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that tame redness and blemishes. Their scents combine to create a crisp, clean, aroma that is both relaxing and uplifting.
- First, massage the cleanser onto your face with small circular motions, concentrating on blackheads and whiteheads.
- Wet a soft washcloth with hot water and hold it over your face until it cools. Repeat this step a few times if you wish, remembering to clear your mind and breathe deeply as you do, soaking up the aromatherapeutic benefits of the essential oils as the heat from the towel opens pores and allows impurities to come to the surface.
- Wipe away the oils to reveal soft, glowing skin.
- For best results, follow with the Matte Hydrating Serum.
Our Chlorophyll Exfoliant and soon-to-be-released Cleansing Balm are other products to use for oil cleansing. There are also many other wonderful oil cleansers on the market. Just be sure to choose one with truly natural ingredients.
